It seems to be common knowledge nowadays that the iPhone 5 is due to be released in the not so distant future and I am sure many people are waiting with bated breath for the full announcement of the new features and a possible sneak peek at new design. But what does this mean for the iPhone 4 and also the earlier versions of the iPhone?
Personally I believe it will strengthen the sales of the iPhone 4 as the price is sure to come down with the release of the iPhone 5. Many people who have been holding out for the drop in price will now be able to afford it and will jump at the chance to own the iPhone 4.

However I believe it will spell the end for the iPhone 3GS the way iPhone 4 did for 3G. Lately we have heard that Verizon will be launching the iPhone on their network in February. Talks began in 2008 between Apple and Verizon and they have finally reached the agreement. Just to clarify and put any wild rumors to bed, the phone is Verizon 3G (EV-DO) only, no 4G data or GSM roaming. It's not a world phone or an AT&T + Verizon phone, it's just a Verizon phone.
Also many people will be wanting to get hold of a SIM free iPhone which will allow them to use their own SIM and will mean they are not ties into any contracts. Many mobile phone suppliers across the world are now offering these and when the prices are reduced I am sure that they will sell by the millions.
One other piece of the Apple repertoire due to be updated is the iPad with Apple due to announce the iPad2 any time soon. Will many features rumored and more to be revealed it will be interesting to see how Apple are going to improve the design and functionality of the original. Many feel an increase in memory, better CPU and front and rear cameras, to take advantage of Facetime will be included.
Looking around the web I have found many places offering a Free iPad on contract with a 3G mobile broadband supplier and although these offers are good they can usually end up costing you more than the item itself given that these deals usually tie you into the contract for up-to 2 years.
Anyway back to the original question, 'Does the iPhone 4 have a future?' Well yes it does, I believe this is the end of the road for the 3GS but not the iPhone 4. This will take the back seat and end up the second level iPhone with the iPhone 5 being the headline product.
